This 8-week series builds from one session to the next. You’ll develop strength & flexibility\, but you won’t be on the floor\, and you won’t twist yourself into weird positions. Most importantly\, you’ll learn the techniques of energy-flow meditation–a Kriya Yoga practice that leads to a joyful connection to something far greater than yourself–an experience known as Christ Consciousness\, or enlightenment. \nWear easy on/off shoes and loose\, comfortable clothing\, but don’t expect to sweat. Bring a meditation cushion and/or yoga block if you have them. (A yoga mat is not required.) \nThis 8-week series builds from one session to the next. By the end\, you’ll have built an energy activation and meditation practice you can do on your own–one that leads to a joyful connection with something far greater than yourself. \nWhat We’ll Do\nWe’ll use a combination of yoga asanas and isometric exercises to awaken our energy centers\, at the same time developing the specific combination of strength and flexibility needed for strong\, upright posture–the kind that lets you sit effortlessly for meditation. You’ll learn breathing practices that turn those activities into energy-activation processes. As you progress\, you’ll learn subtle (but powerful) internal activation techniques that are even more effective for generating energy flows. \nOver time\, you will become increasingly more adept at generating internal energy flows and increasingly more sensitive to them–a dual capacity that will unfold within you\, in time. \nThe End Game\nLike a path leading to an oasis\, the time required to get to the destination depends on where you start\, how often you travel\, and how long you travel. But arrival at the ultimate destination is assured if you travel the path. \nOnce you become aware of the energy within you\, you begin to experience yourself as an energy being. When you do\, you’ll find yourself connecting to the unending energy of the universe. and uncover the ability to become truly\, authentically positive–anytime and anywhere–a state that can truly be called “enlightened”. \nThe Progression\nWe’ll start with a basic Bench Yoga practice and work up to more powerful Subtle Energy Yoga techniques. You’ll develop the kind of posture that lets you sit effortlessly for meditation\, and learn how to use breath practices\, soft stretches\, simple isometrics\, and energy activations to generate the kind of internal energy flows that lead to the experience of enlightenment. \nAfter we’ve built an energy-flow meditation practice\, we’ll talk about the nature of the universe. That understanding\, along with your internal-energy experience\, will help you manifest the connection. DESCRIPTION:To commemorate Black History Month in 2023\, UPA’s DEI-BElonging Team is pleased to announce a live performance of: \nWords That Made the Difference: Brown vs. the Board of Education \non Saturday\, February 11\, 2023\, in our sanctuary\n6:15-6:45 PM – Q&A with the playwright\n7:00-9:00 PM – Performance (no intermission)\n9:00-9:30 PM – Q&A with the cast \nTickets are FREE and available only through Eventbrite: https://tinyurl.com/UnityBvB\nDonations are welcome and will go to the UPA’s General Fund.\nWe have begun to publicize this event to our surrounding communities. For this reason\, we are offering the UPA community an “early bird” opportunity to secure your seat. You can register here: tinyurl.com/UnityBvB \nIn Unity\, we believe all people are Divine and made in God’s image. Racial equity and inclusion are aligned with both our name and core values. In presenting this play\, we are practicing our fifth principle\, taking action to increase our knowledge and understanding of this part of U.S. history and furthering our purpose. This is historical theater. Twenty-two professional actors will be performing on our platform. The audience will be observers in the courtroom. \nThis play is based on actual events in the fight to end school segregation\, set in the courtrooms of history\, capturing the actual words in court cases that culminated in Brown vs. the Board of Education. The script draws from trial transcripts of the five cases brought together in front of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Earl Warren’s memoirs. \nWelcoming and presenting this play to a diverse audience from our surrounding communities will encourage open-hearted\, courageous conversations. In addition\, this performance will introduce our lovely campus to persons who may be seeking a spiritual home. \nIf you are interested in volunteering for this event\, please contact Karen Friedman at kjfriedman2@gmail.com. \nDr. Cindy Acker\, Ed.D. (Playwright and Director) is a five-time award-winning educator\, author\, and playwright. She was vocally trained by the late Johnny Land and has sung with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir\, the Glide Ensemble\, Unity In Marin\, and the MCC Worship and Praise Choir of San Francisco. She has led and toured three choirs\, performing in the Governor’s chambers on behalf of marriage equality. Cindy has produced an Emmy award-winning feature entitled “Creative Parenting.” She has written several plays and performed in the US and Canada\, including an award-winning musical entitled “In Our Hands.”

A topic for writing is chosen by the group at the end of each session. This 8-week series builds from one session to the next. You’ll develop strength & flexibility\, but you won’t be on the floor\, and you won’t twist yourself into weird positions. Most importantly\, you’ll learn the techniques of energy-flow meditation–a Kriya Yoga practice that leads to a joyful connection to something far greater than yourself–an experience known as Christ Consciousness\, or enlightenment. \nWear easy on/off shoes and loose\, comfortable clothing\, but don’t expect to sweat. Bring a meditation cushion and/or yoga block if you have them. (A yoga mat is not required.) \nThis 8-week series builds from one session to the next. By the end\, you’ll have built an energy activation and meditation practice you can do on your own–one that leads to a joyful connection with something far greater than yourself. \nWhat We’ll Do\nWe’ll use a combination of yoga asanas and isometric exercises to awaken our energy centers\, at the same time developing the specific combination of strength and flexibility needed for strong\, upright posture–the kind that lets you sit effortlessly for meditation. You’ll learn breathing practices that turn those activities into energy-activation processes. As you progress\, you’ll learn subtle (but powerful) internal activation techniques that are even more effective for generating energy flows. \nOver time\, you will become increasingly more adept at generating internal energy flows and increasingly more sensitive to them–a dual capacity that will unfold within you\, in time. \nThe End Game\nLike a path leading to an oasis\, the time required to get to the destination depends on where you start\, how often you travel\, and how long you travel. But arrival at the ultimate destination is assured if you travel the path. \nOnce you become aware of the energy within you\, you begin to experience yourself as an energy being. When you do\, you’ll find yourself connecting to the unending energy of the universe. and uncover the ability to become truly\, authentically positive–anytime and anywhere–a state that can truly be called “enlightened”. \nThe Progression\nWe’ll start with a basic Bench Yoga practice and work up to more powerful Subtle Energy Yoga techniques. You’ll develop the kind of posture that lets you sit effortlessly for meditation\, and learn how to use breath practices\, soft stretches\, simple isometrics\, and energy activations to generate the kind of internal energy flows that lead to the experience of enlightenment. \nAfter we’ve built an energy-flow meditation practice\, we’ll talk about the nature of the universe. That understanding\, along with your internal-energy experience\, will help you manifest the connection. But of the two\, it is the experience of internal energy that matters most. \nAbout Me\nCall me “Coach.” I do not claim perfection or a guruhood of any kind. I have flaws and am constantly learning. In other words\, I am an “inspired bubble of imperfection” with important things to share. Some I learned from others. Some were inspired in meditation\, or evolved in 30 years of practice. I believe that no one becomes truly enlightened until we are all enlightened–so it is incumbent on us all to help others whenever we can.
